Ruminations
It is a rainy, rainy day today. I heard it start early this morning, about 0400. There came a strong shower with some light thunder and a sudden patter of heavy rain on the roof. In the still of the early morning, the sound penetrated my sleep and I awoke, briefly, to listen to the rain.
I like the sound of rain on the roof. It makes me feel snug and secure inside my warm house. It is a form of triumph over the elements that must have made my ancestors feel good too.
I also like the sound of the rain because it signifies renewal. It is the lifeblood of the earth, renewing the soil so that it can, once again, produce its harvest.
The rain is a gift from God to the earth. It falls on the righteous and the unrighteous. His gifts are bountiful.
