Music
Last Thursday night, Wife, DiL, and I drove down to the Buddy Holly Center to hear D.G. Flewellyn play. He had J.T. Paz with him on drums.
It was a beautiful High Plains summer evening—the temperature was about 80F (yes!) and the sky was clear with only a few puffy cumulus clouds. The sky was as blue as can be. Summer afternoons do not get better on the High Plains. We rolled in about 1715 for a 1730 concert. There were plenty of people there but it was not crowded. I stationed myself with my Nikon D100 just off center stage where I could see and make images.
D.G. and J.T. kicked the show off right on time. I like D.G.’s style with the acoustic guitar. He gets a lot of sound out of his instrument. I saw him once before, but it was long ago and he was solo then. It was back in the days when J&B Coffee was still in the Kingsgate Center, long before Daybreak Coffee Roasters came along.
About a half-hour into the show, John Sprott arrived and quickly set up. He stayed for about an hour and joined forces with J.T. and D.G. both instrumentally and vocally. His guitar added a nice lead touch to the overall sound. John is another great player.
I like the smooth acoustic sound that D.G. generates. It is easy on the ears, and his songs are well-crafted. I like original music and it is such a blessing to have players like D.G. (and others) here in Lubbock.
