This article from ABC news reports that severed fingers from five American hostages were recently sent to the U.S. military.
That certainly seems in keeping with other brutality I’ve read about there. It’s difficult to not think about retribution for such acts.
At least there is evidence for the families of the hostages that their loved ones may still be alive.
And some say waterboarding is “too much.”

Wife and I watched Kingdom of Heaven last night — well, I watched it and she dozed. ;) At one point she remarked “That was a violent time.” I was watching the movie and didn’t respond.
But, I woke this morning and found the comment floating around in the back of my head. It was a violent time. But, on reflection, we live in violent times, still. I’ve never been in combat, but I suspect that it isn’t much different now than it was then, even with “stand-off” weapons. We have violence in our country and every other country, at least at some level.
Until Christ comes, there will always be those willing to use force to take what they want from someone else. I believe it is our duty to resist — I believe it is my duty, and the duty of every citizen, to resist those here who would do violence.
We live in violent times.
But this isn’t something I think about much. My desire is to be at peace with those around me as best as I can.
This issue and the follow up here are things to think on. I abhor violence. But, good people who abhor violence cannot stand by and permit it in our midst. We just can’t.
