When Plotters Go Bad

When plotters go badThe law of unintended side effects is alive and well. On Friday, the technician issued an email that a some large plots would be sent to the annex-office plotter. As I worked through my email this morning, this came into my inbox.

Clearly, no one expected a paper hang to dump plots all over the floor. However, I’ve been around computer equipment and watched the interaction of computer equipment and printing/plotting equipment enough times to know, I mean know that paper-handling is a huge issue.

It will be interesting to see if there is any email response to this. Although I think it’s funny, if it was me I’d be embarrassed.

  1. 25 years ago I worked with an IBM 5211 printer (300lpm). One of the print jobs was internal copies of customer statements on 14 7/8×11 paper. We’d run it overnight, and invariably it would jam. Usually I’d walk in the next morning and my favorite accounting clerk would say “Phred’s choking!”

  2. LOL. That’s a great one-liner! I especially love the spelling “Phred.”

    Thanks for sharing that story.
