An Old Man

We’re on the road again today. By the time this posts, we’ll probably be leaving Salina, Utah bound for Lubbock, Texas. I have meetings there and Young Son begins his summer program next week. So, I’m delivering Wife and Young Son as well as attending to project work. Two birds — One Stone… it’s the perfect kill, at least for me.

Today also happens to be my birthday. I’m now 55-years old and as ornery as I ever was. I’m not legally able to eat from the old-folks’ menu. I have the gray to prove my age. The shiny hair in my likeness attached to the side of the main page is not blonde; it’s gray!

Speaking of senior menus… I’ve been eating from the senior menu at a number of places for several years. The portions provided by the regular menu are too large. Not only is the energy content of the regular portion too great for my slowing metabolism, but I don’t like to feel over full. So, I choose from the senior menu or Wife and I split an entree and order side items to supplement as necessary. We’ve done this for awhile and it works reasonably well; so long as we agree on the entree.

The trip yesterday was not bad. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. The sky was clear and bright until about the time we hit the eastern Nevada border, when we drew some high clouds. The temperature stayed around 60F most of the day. When we started south in Utah late in the day, it warmed mildly to about 70F. That is nearly perfect weather.

We saw a lot of motorcycles and I was mildly envious of their mode of transport. It is perfect motorcycling weather. I’m hoping to get a few long rides in this summer. We’ll see.

It was about 1900 when we pulled into Salina, Utah. We stayed here before. It’s another hundred miles to Green River (the next major service area) and I thought another hour-and-a-half was too much. I want to get to the destination, but I don’t want to be burned out either. So, if we spill over into Sunday, that’s OK. I want to enjoy the drive as well as get to the destination.

I have a full week of work planned for next week. I’ll meet with co-researchers on Tuesday to move a research project forward and then a defense scheduled for Friday. I have project work to move forward the remainder of the week and I’m sure a couple more meetings will materialize while I’m in Lubbock. I’m hoping to spend some time with a few old friends, too.

Well, now I think I’ll hit the shower and get ready for my day. Good Day, all, from an Old Man.

  1. Happy Birthday Daddy! Don’t worry about the gray, it makes you look distinguished. Lol, and no, most of it is not from me…I know what you’re thinking. I hope your day is good. I wish I was there to celebrate with you! Love you bunches.

  2. LOL. Thanks. As for the gray… I think I have three children, oh, and a Wife too… So I think it has to be divided up four ways. Yeah, that’s it — four ways. :)

  3. Happy Birthday! At least you waited till now to admit the gray. I celebrated number 39 Monday, and the gray is already upon me…Jennifer is showing it too, but far from admitting. She hit 38 today…

  4. Dude, it’s so hard to believe your approaching 40! And Jennifer? She has gray? Happy Day to both of you, too!
