By the time this posts, we’ll be on the road again…

  1. Ruminator…

I just had to read over your blog after your nice comment on my blog (http://theshootist.net) about my Memorial Day essay. I enjoyed your description of your range trip, and noted you shoot a Glock 19. As a concealed carry instructor in Louisiana, I recommend that gun because of its size if someone wants a Glock—it is my favorite Glock pistol.
I don’t know if you are aware of the replaceable trigger known as a “ghost” trigger, but a young female friend was complaining about her trigger pull on her Glock 19, and my local gunsmith recommended this replacement.
Everyone that dry-fires or shoots the gun falls in love with the trigger—it reduces the pull from the factory stock down to between 2.5 and 3 pounds. If you haven’t changed the trigger, and might be interested, google the name—“Glock Ghost Trigger.” Pretty incredible. As is your writing. I enjoy your “Random Ruminations.” Keep shooting. Stay armed. And thank you.

  2. Thanks for dropping by, Gordon. You’re welcome here.

The comment was real. You wrote a fine essay and earned the praise. The day I set aside to remember approaches and it’s a good thing to remember. I need to get to Arlington and see the changing of the guard. I intend to do that someday.

I own and shoot a number of Mr. Glock’s auto-pistols. I began the process because of some friends I was shooting IDPA matches with. Many of them shot Glocks and the design fascinated me. (I’m an engineer, among other things.) So, I bought a G17 to shoot IDPA. I was intrigued by their design and function (despite the ribbing I took from my 1911A1-shooting friends).

My main daily-carry is the G19. It’s nearly the perfect pistol. It points well for me and is light enough, even when fully-loaded.

I actually put a Ghost Rocket in the pistol, then traded it out for a standard 3.5-pound connector when I had some function problems with the .22LR conversion. I think the Rocket is an excellent product and I have them in several pistols. They really shorten the reset quite a bit. But I find that the reset works well for me whether I have the Rocket installed or not.

It seems to me this is a finesse thing and that if I were better with the pistol it would make more difference. Given my skill level, the standard Glock light (nominal 3.5-pound) connector works pretty well. I polished it up nice and bright, as well.

For whatever it’s worth, I carry the G34 on long trips. I like having a full-size pistol with a much longer sight radius when it’s all I have. I should probably carry a rifle as well, but I haven’t worked myself up to that yet. It isn’t that I expect trouble, but you never know when you might be stuck out in the middle of nowhere. There are some big spaces out here in the west.

Thanks for dropping by and I appreciate the comments.
