There is something about Sunday afternoons. Sometimes we spend the afternoon with friends after church, eating and socializing, usually with much laughter. Sometimes we spend the afternoon at home, watching a movie or busy with our own duties. Some Sunday afternoons I’ll take the bike out, sometimes with Young Son, sometimes alone.
There is just something about Sunday afternoons. They are a time set aside from the mundane for something out of the ordinary. They are recreative or productive, or sometimes just there.
This Sunday afternoon was a mix. I’ve been scanning some negatives I made a few weeks ago during Violet I’s studio time. I’ve got a couple rolls from their last Daybreak gig to scan as well. The new recording is mixed and ready for pressing. I’m pumped about that as I heard a few cuts off the mix this afternoon.
I just got back from the office. Shelob was locked up (I’m not certain why) so I rebooted her. I also worked on some assignments for my class, which meets in the morning. It was a productive time, spent listening to James Taylor in the background.
On the way home, the sun was just setting. The evening sky had already turned cool with the blues and grays of evening. But at the horizon, there was still enough light to brighten the high clouds with warm white light. Bands of light stretched out toward zenith, grading into cooler colors with distance from the horizon.
I listened to music on the way home and felt that old wanderlust stir in me again. There’s something about sunset in the truck with music in the background that takes me to travels past. I’m thinking that the truck is going to be a great vehicle for us. It is so full of promise for many good miles.
There is just something about Sunday afternoons—and now it’s Sunday evening. Good Day!
