Bloggish
It’s been nearly a year since Work-in-Progress played. After my hiatus and months of work, we finally made our appearance at Daybreak Coffee Roasters last night.
Early in the evening, I changed out the strings on my PRS Santana edition. They really needed to be changed! Then, Wife and I headed for for the church. We (WiP) gathered at Lubbock Bible Church (where we rehearse and store our equipment) at 1700 to load up and head for the venue. It took about a half-hour to get the trailer loaded. It’s great that the drummer has access to a trailer.
We hauled our stuff into the venue and started setting things up. That took another hour and change. Then, at about 1900, we were ready for the sound check. Actually, that wently fairly smoothly, given that we haven’t played live for months.
I didn’t have time to eat, so Daughter brought me a granola bar to munch before the show. At 2000, we gathered to focus and then took the stage. I was nervous as I didn’t feel as well prepared as I prefer, but was reasonably confident that I could do well enough for the gig.
Things went pretty well. Graceworks and Meltdown Morning showed up to support us and that was cool. While my solos weren’t the best I’ve done, they weren’t the worst either. We hung together pretty well.
But, by the time we reached the last song, I had just run out of gas. I was so tired that I was yawning on stage. (That’s not a good thing!) I made it through the last tune, Jubal’s Blues, and then Grandson wanted to hold me. So, while folks visited, I sat and held him. He grinned at me with this funny little smile; he looked pleased with himself.
We went back onstage and tore down my gear, then I helped roadie the PA to the trailer, but then we split and went to get some food. Daughter, Young Son, and Grandson went home to settle down. I needed the food.
It was a good evening and it was good to play again.
It's been about a year and a half since "Faces in the Crowd" did anything significant. (Carter is now almost 17 months old!) I miss it desperately. I feel the yearning once again.
