Audioscrobbler

At Geof’s suggestion, I surfed over to Audioscrobbler.com and did a little reading. The concept is genuinely interesting!

What they do is use a small program that collects your playlists in the background and submits them to the site, where statistics are collected on your listening habits. Then your playlist is periodically scanned and your listening habits are matched up with other’s. From that, recommendations for other artists can be made.

If this works (and the jury is still out on that), then it is a fine way to find new artists (or at least artists new to me) who make music that will interest me. It will be interesting to see what the algorithms come up with for me. I have eclectic tastes in music and listen to a fairly wide variety of artists.

My statistics page is here.

  1. Everyone says that about their tastes, and still AS finds many like us. ;)

[See, I, too, like 5OCP and lament their breakup.]

Give it a few weeks before you try to draw value from it. :) Geof F. Morris    27 April 2005, 08:50    #

  2. Cool! I could use some new music and some new directions. I’ll be patient, I promise! ruminator    27 April 2005, 10:36    #
